A week had passed since their meeting at the pools. Peleus hadn't seen Ariadne since that day, nor had there been any dream shares. A void slowly started to fill his chest. Emptiness. He missed her. After training some evenings, he found himself walking by the Medic Center in hopes that he would see her coming or going. Every day they ran drills in the pools, he looked for her, but he never saw her.

He distractedly wandered around the mess hall. It was crowded as usual. All cadets, no matter the Division, were always hungry. Today was another round of drills. They were getting more complicated. Peleus appreciated that. It helped him get his mind off Ariadne, but he was done for the day.

Maybe he should just go knock on Ariadne’s door to see how she was? He thought they had left on good terms, but her lack of appearance worried him.

His eyes traveled over the little groupings, halfheartedly in search of Ariadne. She never came to the mess hall. None of the Medics did. They usually worked late into the evenings. Someone always needed medical attention.

Peleus started toward a group of his peers with a sigh until a hand settled on his shoulder, stopping him. The feel of the hand sent a shock of pleasure through his body. With a smile on his face even before he fully turned, he whirled around to face his soulmate. She was grinning back at him.

"Hey! It's been a while." Peleus hoped his voice sounded steady. He was nervous at seeing her again.

"I've been really busy with training and haven't had any free time. I wanted to see you tonight before I fell into my usual unconscious stupor. Miss me?" Her eyes shined mischievously.

Peleus just raised an eyebrow.

She laughed. "I'm going to take that as a yes?"

"Yes, I missed you. I was about to come to knock on your door to find out if you were okay."

Contrition lit Ariadne's expression. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be missing for so long."

"Oh, no! I understand. Your training is brutal, but I hoped you wouldn't forget me so easily after..." He trailed off.

Ariadne blushed and shuffled her feet with downcast eyes. "Actually, that is one of the reasons I stayed away. I'm starting to like you a lot. I don't want to rush into things."

Her candor surprised him.

She pressed on. Her words came out in a rush. "I really like you. We're so different. Medic training is very demanding. My life is so..." She held her hands up in helplessness.

Peleus grabbed them. "It is okay. I understand you want to take things slowly."

She looked at him with a troubled expression on her face. "There is such an attraction between us. I'm worried that if I give in completely, I'll get so wrapped up in you that everything else will become less important."

Peleus understood what she was saying. The way he felt about her now was paltry compared to how they would feel once fully bonded. They were still individuals with goals, fears, and dreams.
